Kyndium narrows its product to project management and begins a full redesign
Fourteen modules outside core planning were retired and archived; the product gained a single design system, one accent, and Undo in place of confirmation dialogs.
Kyndium has refocused its product on project management. Modules for events, volunteers, small business, rentals, real estate, creative work, hiring, personal finance, college applications, music, sports, collections, games and labs were removed from the product on October 5 and preserved in an archive, so the team can return to any of them later without rebuilding.
What remains is the core: Board, Checklist and Timeline over one set of tasks, with Calendar, Table, Sprints, OKRs, KPIs, Time, Automations, Docs, Reports, frameworks, Canvas and Spreadsheet alongside, and a module registry that drives every menu so a module is added in one place.
The refocus opened the way for a redesign that began the next day. The new system, called Deep Sea with a lilac accent, generates every neutral from one hue in OKLCH so light and dark modes are one declaration, tunes text for WCAG AA contrast, replaces emoji with a single icon set, and sets a seven-step type scale. Board, Checklist, Timeline, the task window, Home and the rest of the app moved onto it over the following days.
Alongside the visual change, the product adopted three interaction rules: one click opens a task, every empty state teaches what the view is for, and deletes offer Undo instead of asking "Are you sure?". The last rule removed every confirmation dialog from the product; tasks and projects go to Trash for thirty days, and everything else is held back until the Undo toast goes.
"We had built wide," said the Kyndium team. "Narrowing let us build deep, and the redesign is what depth looks like when every screen uses the same words, the same colors and the same gestures."
About Kyndium
Kyndium is a project management product built around one idea: a plan is one thing. The same task is the card on the board, the row in the checklist, the bar on the timeline and the milestone on the slide, so nothing is copied between tools and nothing drifts. Kyndium is free to start and free for students and registered nonprofits. Learn more at kyndium.com.
