How the Board works

Lanes run across the Board and cards sit in them. Drag a card to another lane to move it; drag a lane by the grip in its header to reorder the lanes. Each card shows the title, labels, due date, sub-task progress, high priority, a paperclip when it has files, and the assignee. Click the chevron on a card to expand it in place and read its notes, points and logged time without leaving the Board.

One click opens a card. ⌘-click (Ctrl-click on Windows), Shift-click or Space selects it instead.

Adding cards

Click Add a card at the bottom of a lane (or press c anywhere in the project), type the title and press Enter. Enter again starts the next card. Open the card to set the lane, assignee, due date, priority, labels, notes and sub-tasks.

  • Keep titles as actions: "Write the launch announcement", not "Announcement".
  • A card added in a done lane starts complete.
  • Paste cards from another lane or project with ⌘C and ⌘V; they land in the lane you point at.

Quick edit from the card menu

Point at a card and click the dots in its corner, or right-click it. Edit card turns the menu into a small form for the title, due date, priority, assignee and labels, saved in one go: Enter in the title or ⌘Enter anywhere saves, Escape cancels. The same menu sets the priority in one click, moves the card to another lane, copies or duplicates it, removes its cover, and deletes it with Undo.

Lane colors, done lanes and card limits

Open a lane's menu to set these up.

Color puts a bar on the lane header and tints the lane lightly, so cards stay readable in light and dark mode.

Mark cards done here turns the lane into a done lane, shown by a check beside its name. Moving a card in completes the task everywhere (Checklist, Timeline, Reports, Home); moving it out to a lane that is not done reopens it. If the lane already holds open cards when you turn this on, Kyndium offers to complete them.

Set a card limit is for work-in-progress lanes. The header shows "3 / 4" and turns amber, with an amber lane edge, when the lane holds more than the limit. It is a nudge, not a rule: moves are never blocked, and the count includes cards the filter hides.

  • Moving a repeating task into a done lane creates its next instance in the same lane, or the first lane that is not done.
  • ⌘Z after moving a card into a done lane moves it back and reopens it.

Swimlanes

Group by in the filter bar splits every lane into rows by assignee, priority or label. Lane headers stay at the top and row names at the left as you scroll. Dropping a card in another row changes that field: in someone's row assigns it to them, in High makes it high priority, in a label's row swaps the label. Add in a cell starts a card with that row's value set. Click a row's name to fold it away.

  • A card with two labels shows in both label rows.
  • Tasks not on the board yet sit beside the grid; drop one in a cell to give it that lane and that row's value.
  • ⌘Z after a swimlane drag puts back the assignee, priority or labels the row changed.
  • Save swimlanes as part of a saved view to come back to them in one click.

Card covers

The first image attached to a task becomes its cover on the Board. To pick a different one, open the task, point at an image under Attachments and choose Use as cover; Remove cover takes it off. Covers can be PNG, JPEG, GIF, WebP or AVIF.

Tasks not on the board yet

Tasks made in the Checklist, the Timeline or the Calendar have no lane. On the Board they appear in a dashed Not on the board yet lane at the left. Drag one onto a lane, choose Move to lane on the card, or drag it onto Add lane to make a new lane for it. The lane only shows when there is something to place.

Lanes

Add lane sits at the right of the Board; dropping a card on it makes a new lane with the card inside. Click a lane's title to rename it. The chevron in the header folds the lane to a slim strip. Deleting a lane from its menu sends its cards to Trash, where they can be restored for 30 days.

Selecting many cards

Hold ⌘ (Ctrl) and click cards, Shift-click a run of cards in one lane, or focus a card and press Space. A bar at the bottom moves, copies or deletes the selection together. Escape clears it.

Undo

⌘Z undoes the last move: a drag, a bulk move, Move to lane, or a swimlane drop. The undo is saved on the server too, so a refresh does not bring the move back. Deletes are not on that stack; they go to Trash and the message that appears has its own Undo.
