Creating your first project

The ways to start a project, what each one gives you, and the first five minutes inside it.

4 min readnew project · setup · templates · guided · blank · import

Opening the new project screen

From Home, click New project (or the plus in the top bar). The page asks what you are planning and offers a few ways to start.

Start blank

Pick the module (Board, Checklist or Timeline), name the project, choose an icon, and go. A Board starts with To Do, In Progress and Done lanes; the other two start empty. You can switch between all three views at any time, so the choice only sets which one opens first.

  1. Choose Start blankBest when you already know the structure you want.
  2. Name it and pick an iconThe icon is an emoji of your choice; it shows on the project card and in the project switcher.
  3. Pick the view it opens inBoard for work that moves through stages, Checklist for lists, Timeline for anything with dates and dependencies.
  4. Create projectYou land in the project. Press c to add the first task.

From a template

The gallery opens with Your templates, the projects you have saved as templates, then 30 ready-made ones across six categories: Work, Personal, Trips, Routines, Events and Creative. Each one sets up lanes, tasks, phases and labels. Filter by category or by the view a template opens in. Everything is editable afterwards; a template is a starting point, not a constraint. To make your own, see Saving a project as a template.

Bring it from another tool

Drop a Trello board export, an Asana or Jira CSV, or any spreadsheet, and it becomes a project with its lanes, sub-tasks, labels, dates and dependencies. See Importing from Trello, Asana, Jira or a spreadsheet.

Guided setup and AI

Guided setup asks four quick questions (what kind of work, how many people, the time frame, how detailed) and recommends a module with a starter structure.

When AI is configured on your Kyndium, a fifth path lets you describe the project in a sentence or two and get a full structure to review before anything is created. See AI helpers.

The first five minutes

Add tasks with c or the add field in any view. Open a task with one click to set its due date, assignee, priority and labels. Switch to the Timeline and drag the bars onto dates. Click Share to invite someone as an editor or a viewer. If the project is one you will run again, save it as a template when it is set up the way you like.

  • A task made in any view appears in every view. There is nothing to sync.
  • Deleting is never a dead end: tasks and projects go to Trash for 30 days, and the message that appears has Undo.
